Time for Disaffected Republicans to Join the Libertarian Movement

The 2020 election is turning out to be the most tumultuous in American history and the landscape is not looking good for Donald Trump. Republicans are going in droves to the other side in an effort to ensure that Trump doesn’t win a second term.

(CNN) A group of former George W. Bush administration and campaign officials has launched a new super PAC to mobilize disaffected Republican voters for presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden. The group, launched Wednesday under the name “43 Alumni for Biden,” “seeks to unite and mobilize a community of historically Republican voters who are dismayed and disappointed by the damage done to our nation by Donald Trump‘s presidency,” according to a release. The formation of the group is the latest example of efforts being made by anti-Trump Republicans to defeat the President in November.

Instead of turning to the dark side it is time for Republicans to see the light and realize there is a whole movement out there that is worthy of their attention; The Libertarian Movement.

The Libertarian Party has a viable candidate in Jo Jorgensen who is not only a female candidate, but rather one that hasn’t been accused of sexual assault.

Libertarianism offers a trove of principles that can guide this country for the next century. The individual and the respect for the individual is becoming more popular as governments have abused the rights of its citizens in many different aspects. Less government, more personal responsibility, and a free markets is the hallmark of a prosperous society.

It is time to come home.

  1. The Libertarian Party needs to reach out to the largest voting block in the Republican Party, Evangelical Christians, then. Most of us are on your side when considering making government smaller and less invasive. Some of us are even with you in agreeing that certain types of ‘legislating morality’ are to be left to local or state governments. (Although that may be more of a Constitution Party position than a Libertarian one) However, we are wary of Libertarians who are left-statists lite and would abridge our First Amendment rights to Freedom of Speech and Religion in favor of LGBTQ+ rights. Masterpiece Cakes and Cakes by Melissa are two cases the last Libertarian Party nominee for President of the United States misunderstood, to be generous. It’s one thing to say “I don’t like gay people, so I would never bake any type of cake for them.” That is discriminatory, mean-spirited, and insulting. It’s another thing to say, as both the owners of Sweet Cakes by Melissa said and the owner of Masterpiece Cakes said: “We cannot in good conscience due to our religious beliefs make a wedding cake for a gay couple, but we would cater other events.” When the Libertarian Party understands the distinction here, they will be able to win more evangelicals like me.

  2. Aha! Jo Jorgensen gets it! On this issue, she is light-years ahead of the 2016 Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson. She also gets the push to defund PP, and frankly, any move away from forcing taxpayers to fund PP would be a vast improvement.
