For the third time in American history a President has been Impeached. The U.S. House of Representatives has voted in a historic manner to impeach President Donald Trump on two counts of Abuse of Power and Obstruction of Congress. After months of speculation, investigations, hearings, articles of impeachment drawn up, the House has decided that President Donald Trump should be impeached.
The U.S. Senate now takes up the issue and must decide if President Trump will be removed from office. The trial of Trump is expected to begin in January and will be only the third time in history that they must decide if the President should be removed from his office.
The Chief Justice John Roberts will be the presiding officer/judge in this very anticipated trial of the President. In order for Trump to be removed from his office 2/3 of the Senators must vote guilty on the charges presented by the House. More than likely Trump will not be removed from office being that the Republicans hold a majority in that legislative body.
The historic nature of this vote sends a signal to the sitting President and others to follow that the abuse of power will not be tolerated. The Constitution is a document that will live on years after this historic day and govern this country for centuries to come.
We will have full coverage of the Senate trial as it approaches and begins.
