Yesterday a letter was released by the Speaker of the House that she received from President Trump concerning the impeachment matter. In an attempt to tell his side of the story the President opened his diluted mind to the American people in the most awkward way possible.
Let’s start by examining portions of the letter that the President sent to the House. He opens up with this false statement:
The Articles of Impeachment introduced by the House Judiciary Committee are not recognizable under any standard of Constitutional theory, interpretation, or jurisprudence. They include no crimes, no misdemeanors, and no offenses whatsoever. You have cheapened the importance of the very ugly word, impeachment!https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefings-statements/letter-president-donald-j-trump-speaker-house-representatives/
First, Impeachment as defined by the Constitution, isn’t about criminal acts solely, but rather crimes against the Constitution. The abuse of power by the President is key to the high crimes clause defined in the Constitution and the President misses that point completely.
By proceeding with your invalid impeachment, you are violating your oaths of office, you are breaking your allegiance to the Constitution, and you are declaring open war on American Democracy.https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefings-statements/letter-president-donald-j-trump-speaker-house-representatives/
The same can be said about the President. His actions violate his oath of office and his allegiance to the Constitution. Congress is acting within its Constitutional rights. They are the ones with the sole power of impeachment as a check and balance against a tyrannical executive branch.
You are the ones interfering in America’s elections. You are the ones subverting America’s Democracy. You are the ones Obstructing Justice. You are the ones bringing pain and suffering to our Republic for your own selfish personal, political, and partisan gain.
Any member of Congress who votes in support of impeachment—against every shred of truth, fact, evidence, and legal principle—is showing how deeply they revile the voters and how truly they detest America’s Constitutional order. Our Founders feared the tribalization of partisan politics, and you are bringing their worst fears to life.https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefings-statements/letter-president-donald-j-trump-speaker-house-representatives/
The President doesn’t understand the way our elections are conducted. He was not elected President, he was selected by the Electoral College. Congress has a duty to the Constitution to protect the American people against corruption and high crimes from the Office of the President. When he tries to convince the leader of a foreign government to investigate the main political rival he goes against everything our founding fathers stood for. He is not putting America first, he is putting himself first.
The fact that Trump wrote this 6-page letter to the Speaker is far beyond any Precedent that has been established by previous administrations. He is scared. He is worried. He knows what he did is wrong and is fearful of the punishment.
No, he probably won’t be removed from office, but the legislative branch needs to set a precedent for future Presidents, of any party, that they can’t abuse the power of their office. This isn’t a Democratic or Republican issue, this is a Constitutional issue. A document that needs to be protected at all costs.
