Local Libertarian Candidates: Heroes Standing Their Ground

OK, I know. It’s a midterm year. And all the attention is on the national elections.  Rightfully so because of how quickly national politicians seem eager to trample on our individual rights.

But I just wanted to use this post as a warning.  Don’t ignore your local elections.  School boards, local councils, that sort of things.  They have a lot more power than we often give them credit for.

Especially when it comes to taxes.  School boards in particular will trip over themselves when it comes to raising taxes.  And they will often use tax breaks on that national level as excuses for raising taxes on the local level.

Here’s how it goes.  You get the local school board out there complaining “Because the federal (or state, take your pick) government is reducing how much they give us we now have to increase how much we tax everybody in our district.  There is no way we can let any sort of tax reductions stand, so we have to make up for it with raising taxes locally.”.

This all seems like there is an ongoing expectation that taxes have to be at a certain level.  Federal taxes get reduced somewhere so we have to increase taxes locally.  There is no way that we can actually reduce taxes across the board.  Keeping more of your money is never an option.

I think this shows how Libertarian politicians at the local level are more much heroic than we give them credit for.  When you get a Libertarian politician running for school board or local office you have someone out there saying “No More!!” to the idea that taxes always have to be raised somewhere.  You get someone who is saying that just because the federal or state government found ways to decrease taxes in one area does not give you the right to raise them somewhere else.

So let’s give credit to the Libertarian running for local office.  They are out there setting the barrier that keeps taxes from going up everywhere.  They may not be fighting the “big picture” but they are keeping tax fiends from pilfering citizens on the local level when reductions occur on state or federal levels.

  1. Libertarians are on the right side of history because freedom worked for 200 years in the US and tyranny failed in the USSR and Nazi Germany.

Communists and Nazis think problems should be solved with force, but Libertarians prefer using logic and reason.

If tyranny is so wonderful then why do people try to escape from prisons?

If Americans love tyranny then why did Americans fight Communists and Fascists?

How can Americans sleep at night now while the US collapses or look in the mirror without feeling utter disgust and shame?
