One of the biggest problems that the United States faces is a crumbling currency at the hands of the Federal Reserve bank. It was decades ago that this country moved away from commodity based currency to a fiat system based on the word of the government.
A big sticking point for a lot of Libertarians is monetary policy, and Ron Paul made it mainstream among a lot of people in this country.
Only one Presidential candidate has suggested that we return to a commodity based system that will ensure controlled inflation and limit government spending.
In an interview at Freedom Fest this past weekend Governor Gary Johnson suggested that the United States return to a commodity based system for our currency.
Understanding monetary policy is essential to understanding how to achieve a free society. Our government currently manipulates the price of money because they can. It is just like monopoly money to them, no real value but only worth something because we say it does. A commodity based system will return discipline to Washington and is essential to controlling the national debt and spending in this country.
